Animal : Treatment
|
|
Veterinary Care. Chiropractic does not replace traditional Veterinary Medicine and surgery, but provides a complimentary method of care. All animals receiving chiropractic treatment must be under the care of a vet and have the vet’s consent before beginning treatment.
Treatment Procedure. During the chiropractic examination I will focus on mechanical problems in the spine and their effect on the entire nervous system throughout the body. I will also examine the motion of all the major joints of the animal. The process of examining the motion of the vertebrae and joints is known as Motion Palpation. The term subluxation is applied where there is a functional misalignment of the joint or limitation of mobility (particularly to vertebral joints). |

An animal with a subluxation will change its posture to compensate for the restricted mobility of its spine and to avoid pain. This triggers increased mechanical stress on other parts of the spine and extremity joints causing secondary restrictions and deterioration of the condition.
Where I identify a subluxation I will apply a chiropractic adjustment (a very quick, short, specific impulse along the plane of the joint) with the aim of correcting the alignment of the vertebrae and restoring normal mobility. The same system of motion testing and treatment is applied to the other joints of the animal’s body. Massage therapy is also used where necessary. Although some animals find it difficult being handled, most of them appear to enjoy chiropractic treatment and find it relaxing.
Treatment Time. For horses approximately 45 mins. Dogs and Cats 30 mins.
Treatment Charges Horse £50 (travel costs negotiable). If more than one animal then £45 per horse. Dogs and other small animals £32
Period Following Treatment. There may be a little stiffness or discomfort for 24-48 hours following treatment but this should soon improve as with human patients. |

How many treatments? In most cases a single treatment won’t be enough to eliminate the problem. Most horses and indeed dogs and cats show significant improvement after one to four treatments. Chronic (longstanding) problems generally take longer to resolve requiring more chiropractic treatment. Animals with more acute (occurred recently) problems often respond more quickly. The age of the animal is also of importance. Several treatments may be required and six-monthly check-ups are advised to help achieve optimum function and performance.
Benefits of Chiropractic Treatment. In general the following benefits have been reported. Improvements in: Flexibility in the spine and the other joints, Muscle tone, Circulation, Performance, Stamina, Gait, Attitude to work, Behaviour.
Do you require a HOME VISIT for any reason? Especially in adverse weather conditions.
